This influence translates into both positive and negative impacts, which increasingly require greater attention and prevention. These include, for example, the pollution of ecosystems or labour conditions in countries at risk of forced labour.
In addition, the emergence of “fast fashion” , or “moda rapida”, based on the constant renewal of clothing collections and encouraged by compulsive consumerism, has led to faster production processes by producing low-cost, low-quality garments. Actions that invite easy disposal and have a great impact on our planet, both in terms of the pollution they generate and the impact on the people who work in this new fashion and those who consume it.
That is why, at Zd Zero Defects, we have always adopted a working model that aims to minimise the negative impact that the textile industry can cause, both to people and to the planet.
How do we do it?
After 103 years since we founded the company, we are still in the same factory where we were born in Mataró, with the same philosophy of creating handcrafted, high quality products made at home, without seeking mass profit and without relocating production to third countries. This is why we respond to the “Slow Fashion” model. Because we are a 100% local, sustainable and artisanal company.
And how does this translate into the 2030 Agenda and its SDGs?
< Responsible consumption. Durable and timeless intimate apparel manufacturing
Our garments are highly durable and stand out for their classic and timeless designs. We do not make fashion collections with a limited lifespan, but our collection consists of necessary basics that never go out of fashion, and whose great durability allows optimal use for a long time. In this way, we encourage the responsible consumption of garments and the reduction of the environmental impact generated by single-use products, reducing the reduction of textile waste.
< Use of sustainable fabrics + constant ID
In the manufacture of our garments we use the best natural fibres and sustainable fabrics, such as MicroModal®, Organic Cotton or Soya Yarn; a natural product that is obtained from food waste, is a renewable resource and is naturally biodegradable. In addition, our constant R&D is always focused on the search for sustainable fabrics and processes.
< Responsible production
We are OEKO-TEX® certified, which verifies products manufactured in an environmentally and socially responsible manner. In addition, our suppliers also have the eco-label, which certifies that the chemicals, auxiliaries and dyes are environmentally friendly.
< Proximity trade
The group of companies with which we collaborate in the manufacture of our products (weaving, dyeing, printing, finishing, suppliers of auxiliary materials, etc.), are as close as possible to our environment, whether in the municipality or region, thus avoiding transport costs and promoting the proximity of Km.0 products.
< Waste reduction
We collaborate with the Maresme Foundation, which is in charge of collecting the waste we generate and carries out the subsequent recycling, guaranteeing the correct management of this waste with the environment.
< Decent work
For years, our company has been committed to providing people with a work-life balance that allows them to work, but at the same time enjoy a good quality of family and personal life. Over the last few years we have also encouraged the recruitment of women over 40 years of age at risk of social exclusion, and we also collaborate with CEO Maresme (part of the Maresme Foundation), through which we hire people with intellectual disabilities in the region, in the final part of our manufacturing process, the so-called “stretching” of the garments.
